I’m starting this business because I see the effects of mould every single day. I run a professional mould remediation company and have worked in the building industry for over 20 years. I’ve been inside countless homes where tenants, including families with young children and elderly are living in damp, mould infested conditions.
What’s most frustrating is that most of these cases are preventable. It’s rarely down to leaks or structural issues, it’s down to a lack of understanding. Tenants often don’t know how poor ventilation or under-heating can create the perfect environment for mould. And landlords usually only find out once the damage is already done.
That’s why I’m building a system that tackles the root of the problem, education, prevention, and early action.
My system uses discreet sensors installed in each property to monitor humidity, temperature, and water leaks. These sensors send real time data to a central hub, which then communicates with a custom-built app.
If humidity rises too high or temperature drops too low, the tenant is instantly notified, along with simple guidance to take action, like ventilating a room or adjusting heating.
At the same time, landlords receive regular reports showing conditions across their properties. This gives them an early warning if a problem is developing, allowing them to intervene before mould appears or damage occurs.
This isn’t just about protecting properties, it’s about protecting the people living in them. By helping tenants take control and giving landlords a heads up, we can prevent unnecessary health issues, avoid costly repairs, and create healthier homes for everyone.
Where the Money Will Be used
Your support will help us build and launch a smart monitoring system that protects tenant health by preventing mould before it starts. Every pound will be used to bring this project to life and scale it to the people who need it most.
Here’s how the £40,000 will be used
1. App Development – £12,000
To deliver a clean, reliable experience for both tenants and landlords, we’re building a custom mobile app that sends real-time alerts, provides simple instructions to tenants, and gives landlords access to live reports and risk summaries. The funding will cover development, testing, and ongoing updates.
2. Hardware Stock – £10,000
We’ll use part of the funding to purchase and hold initial stock of humidity, temperature, and leak sensors. This ensures fast deployment for early users and allows us to offer a free trial to landlords during the pilot stage.
3. Operations – £8,000
This covers logistics, support, and onboarding—helping landlords install the system, training them to use the app, and making sure tenants understand what the alerts mean and how to respond.
4. Marketing – £7,000
We’ll run targeted campaigns to reach landlords, letting agents, and housing providers. This includes social media ads, promotional materials, and producing a campaign video to help tell the story.
5. Legal & Compliance – £3,000
We’ll make sure the system is compliant with UK regulations, particularly around data protection, tenant privacy, and electrical safety standards.
