We aim to ensure fair pay for all of our 6 company dancers - enabling us to represent Cornish arts at the Hall for Cornwall in September.

by Sapphire Sumpter in Cornwall, United Kingdom

This performance is the beginning stages of a larger project to bring history to life through contemporary dance performance, storytelling, folk and elements of immersive theatre. The aim is to pay homage to the Cornish community, staying true to the stories of Cornish people throughout time. Through connecting audiences to our past & heritage, it encourages a greater respect for the land itself. With a sense of community, joy and connection it shows how interconnected we all are and that we are never alone. So, we ask you the question, what does it feel like to live and work here? And what did it feel like 200 years ago?

We are a Cornish company of 6 local women who are professional dancers.

The company is directed by Sapphire Sumpter, a Cornish dancer who trained with the Royal Ballet School, London Vocational Ballet School & Rambert School; with working credits including Yorke Dance Project, New Adventures, Theatre Royal Plymouth, Hall for Cornwall, BBC, Lowender and many more.

We are passionate about sharing our work as far and wide as possible and are just at the start of this journey - we need your help to make this happen.

This is an important performance for us as we have been chosen to represent Cornish arts at the Hall for Cornwall, as part of Hope for Cornwall https://www.hallforcornwall.co.uk/whats-on/homes-for-cornwall/ - a charity show that will shape our county for generations.

As it is a charity show, the fees contributed to us do not cover the fees for all 6 dancers - and we need your help to ensure that all dancers receive Equity equivalent fair pay, something we are very passionate about.
