Our History
By a Deed of Trust dated 5th April 1921 it was declared that the Trustees would hold the recreation ground so conveyed to them upon Trust to permit the same to be used in perpetuity as a non-sectarian and non-political place of public recreation by the inhabitants of Feniscowles and Pleasington and the neighbourhood thereof and the public generally at all reasonable times of the year and particularly would permit the same to be used for the purposes of Cricket, Football, Lawn Tennis, Bowls and every other lawful game.
From 1921 until the 1970’s there were two major benefactors supporting the Memorial Ground, being the Star Paper Mill & Sun Paper Mill.
In the 70’s the Mills advised that they would be withdrawing their support and that forced the Trustees to look at other ways to fund the facilities. It was agreed to build the club house we have today. Which was right for its time, however it is now in a poor state of repair and needs replacing. It is the same with our children's playground, this too needs to be redesigned and access for all children equipment installed.
The Future
The Trustees are looking to fund a new club house building with FA & ECB compliant changing rooms, social facilities with a bar & cafe, a space for community groups to meet in pleasant surroundings. A building fit for the next 100 years of service to the community. A new playground is also to be included in the development work.
