We're still collecting donations

On the 12th December 2020 we'd raised £515 with 13 supporters in 56 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

During this pandemic what has become apparent is that food poverty, or household food insecurity, can be triggered by a crisis in finance or personal circumstances, but  it may also be a long-term experience of not being able to access or have the facilities to prepare a healthy diet.

From the children, young people to the elderly in our community food poverty is a reality.

The experiences of these people are just the tip of the iceberg. Food poverty, or household food insecurity is a real issue for some people and vulnerable families in  Wellington and surrounding areas in south west somerset.

These are unprecedented times but together, we are stronger, the response so far during this pandemic coming from communities in Wellington has been phenomenal .

Many Local people are offering their support as are local businesses.

This Project is a happy collaboration local between Local businesess:

P Daddys Pop up Kitchen (A Project of New Horizons Somerset)

and

Tim Potters Butchers in Wellington

As a collaboration we have been working with other local businesses and community organisations, and the local schools by identifying those families in receipt of free school meals and other vulnerable families.

We have been able to provide families and older people in the community who unable to prepare meals without support with free homecooked healthy meals.

We have during this period worked collabaratively with other local businesses and organisations in the area these are: Somerset Food Reselience Forum in Taunton,The Community Council for Somerset, Operation Re: Act , ASDA in Wellington and other local organisations and businesses.

P Daddys Pop up Kitchen have been supportingTim Potters, by providing home cooked meals free of charge, through his network of volunteers he has been delivering these meals together with meat packs and tinned food from the Somerset Food Reslience forum to the most vulnerable families in Wellington and sorrounding areas, to dateTim Potter and his wonderful army of volunteers  are still delivering these meals .

So far all this work has been self funded from donations from us and Tim Potter and by the community making donations  of money to Tim Potter through the Potters Pounds Intiative.

However sadly we have recently seen a spike  in demand for more food packages as we head into the October half term and the festive season, these are real families in real need.

Mr Potter of Tim Potters Butchers in Wellington has through his "Potters Pounds" been providing meat and Vegetable boxes to the most Vulnerable in our community. He says.. "Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have seen an unprecedented number of customers requesting free home delivery due to being in isolation.

"We have decided to introduce this gifting scheme to help those in isolation who are struggling to make ends meet in this desperate situation.

"We have been overwhelmed with offers of support received so far and thank all of those who have donated vital supplies to those who need them most."

But in the comming months the community are being asked to support the most vulnerable members of our community as we head into the winter months and the festive season.

Local residents have already shown their willingness to support the vulnerable people town and we hope that this will be another example of the excellent community spirit that we have here.
