Feeding the 5,000 (and then some!)

Cooking Champions has seen a rapid expansion in the number of meals that we make. Normally we make about 50 meals for a local homeless charity. We wanted to make sure we were helping as much as possible and after a very busy fortnight we are now receiving hundreds of meal requests every week. With the generous support of a few local kitchens we are now producing between 800-1,000 meals a week.

How it works

We have a trained team of kitchen volunteers who make the meals (most work in the catering industry) these are delivered to the NHS and care teams (via Donation and Staff Managers); the homeless (via three local charities) and the local community (we have a volunteer from most streets and they pick up their neighbours would like).

What we need

We want to continue this service for as long as needed but as supplies from food distribution charities are decreasing we are having to spend a lot more money on produce. Donated money is spent on running costs which include food, cleaning products, equipment and containers,

Predicted costs

We had a large influx of food donations at the start of this project as food that was meant for restaurants was donated to us. We are now spending approximately £400 a week to cover costs. We are aiming to run this project for at least another 8 weeks.
