Dear allOn the night of 16th October 2024, an Israeli airplane targeted a house in southern Lebanon. The house had been totally destroyed, but also several houses around had been destroyed totally or partially, including Houssein Hamzeh’s house.Houssein is a civilian who shelters stray dogs and cats, some chickens, and other livestock. He stays in the conflict zone, southern Lebanon, to feed the stray pets and livestock in his shelter and on the streets of deserted villages.Thousands of people (1.4 million displacements in the country) left their houses without taking their pets. Mostly, they thought they would return in a few hours, or they left in a hurry, sometimes without taking IDs or even cash money.Regardless of the political side or the cause of the conflict that led to a full-scale war in Lebanon, people like Houssien all around the country tried to fill the gap and leave food and water all around the deserted villages and cities to keep animals alive in this terrible time.Houssien (as you can see on his page on Facebook) kept traveling all around the south of Lebanon, in dangerous places, risking his life, accompanied by some volunteers, using old mini-vans to spread food and water for the strayed animals as well as left behind ones, who –as you can imagine- had been suffering of lack of water, medical treatment and have been additionally suffering of unexplainable fear while witnessing the human horror of war.To the best of my knowledge, only Houssien is working to help animals in areas of direct conflict; in other places, like the deserted southern suburb of Beirut, many other volunteers are trying to help.Houssien was relying on the generosity of the local community to get food and fuel and pay for vets. Now, he has lost his cars, vans, house, and the stock he managed to get.My first intention is to know how we can help this guy continue his work.Secondly, how could I reach a larger audience to help? Where is the right place to go to find some support?Obviously, charities are not the right place since they are well-established in local issues and are concerned with specific matters. Please feel free to ask any questions about Houssien and myself as well.Thank you all in advance, and hope I’ll hear from you soon,Stay safe and warm.
