To help create a sustainable lifestyle for Pastor Samuel and his family by helping to build a small rural farm.

by Phil Buckman in Mbale, Uganda

Pastor Samuel, his wife Helen and their 4 children live in the small rural town of Mbale, Uganda where life is very hard as there is little work available. Everyday living expenses are almost prohibitive and when emergencies hit, like medical and hospital fees, they have to decide whether they can afford to put food on the table. Because of this their diet is very poor and that in itself is a major reason for poor health. Samuel has suffered with stomach ulcers and after three operations is not able to do strenuous work.

Whilst we continue to support Samuel and his family in any way we can we will now help them by developing a small rural farm on the parcel of land their home sits on.

Samuel and Helen have done their research and they believe that there is enough of a market for what he would be able to manage to create a reasonable, sustainable existence giving them a small regular income. This would not happen overnight so we are coming to you to help us crowdfund so we can get the small holding up and running as well as continue to support the family with their ongoing living costs. We are seeking a sum of £5000.00 which will pay for the animals; day old chicks to rear to the age of 3 months. Nanny goats for their milk and breeding. Billy goats for their meat. House cows for their milk and breeding. Chickens for their eggs. The land needs to be made safe and will need small shelters and fencing to be added. Various ancillary items need to be purchased like feeders and troughs, heating lamps as well as the ongoing cost of animal feed and treatments.

Once up and running it is hoped that they will be able to employ at least one other person to work with them. Future plans include creating a 'co-op' type club where people from the local area can benefit from buying from them and also to offer help to develop other smallholdings for their neighbours. The farm environment will be good for Samuel's condition. It will also be a great place to invite others who have physical and mental health needs gaining respite by engaging with the animals.

Thank you so much for your support.

We look forward to sharing with you as the farm develops.
