What is Save Roughfields all about?

Save Roughfields is a local campaign fighting to protect a much loved and well-used piece of local land known as Roughfields from being destroyed by development. If you have time please check out our Facebook page "Save Roughfields" where you can read all about its history as a farm and public amenity space with stories going back generations!

Over the years, the local council have been selling off pieces of Roughfields for development despite protests from the community. The last few acres are now allocated for 102 more houses which will completely destroy this piece of accessible green space, including the popular children's playground.

Our project "Faces of Roughfields" is a snap shot of the local people who reside in the villages that surround Roughfields. We wanted to give a real identity to the invisible image of what must seem like "yet another community campaign". We haven't stopped at just human portraits; our collection includes the animals, birds and plant life living on Roughfields along with our much loved dogs who enjoy walking their humans in this accessible green space.

Who is involved in the project?

This unique piece of local social history has taken hundreds of volunteer hours to organise. We are fortunate to have some very talented amateur and semi-professional photographers in our community. They have given up their precious free time to capture some wonderful photographs for us. Not forgetting our "subjects" who have overcome their shyness and allowed us to use their image for this exhibition.  People who have been involved in "Faces of Roughfields" have said how much they enjoyed being part of the project.  Others have commented on a revived sense of community through this collective desire to help protect Roughfields.

What will you spend the money on?

The funds you help us raise will go towards the cost of hiring the exhibition venue, advertising, printing the photographs and framing. As a non-profit group, anything left in the pot will be ploughed back into helping with campaign running costs and organising community events e.g. last year we organised free Sports sessions for children in collaboration with a local business.
