1st Inkpen and Kintbury Scout Group run weekly meetings, camps and other activities to give young people the opportunity to enjoy fun and adventure, whilst developing the skills they need to succeed. We provide around 50-60 children aged 6-14 years old with the chance to encourage independence and an appreciation of the great outdoors.
Our Scout Group needs to raise funds to build an extension to the existing scout hut to provide much-needed storage facilities for the myriad scout equipment; for example, tents, stoves, pans, poles, ropes, benches, chairs, canoes and adventure equipment. The current facility is simply not sufficient or efficient for the all the equipment we have. Consequently, some equipment is being stored offsite in multiple volunteers' garages and houses. Building this new bigger, better facility will help in storing and finding equipment safely. The extension will be approximately 7 x 4m. It will be constructed of the same materials as the existing scout hut which is prefab concrete panels. The extension will be fitted out with industrial shelving. On the roof we would like to install solar panels and a battery giving the project green credentials and an interesting education point for the scouts.
Planning permission was granted in 2019 and we started the build with foundations and a concrete base in summer 2020. We hope to complete the build towards the end of 2022. To be able to store our equipment in a fit for purpose facility will make a significant difference to the way the groups are run, and will be a huge organisational benefit to the children.
