EXIT is a DIY club and arts space in the heart of Glasgow which opened in September 2023. The building on Maxwell St was once home to Fury Murry’s and then repurposed into a strip club. EXIT has a strong DIY ethos, championing and growing the local scene and creative community, whilst regularly bringing international acts and forward thinking programming to the city.
Since opening last September we have been leasing our current PA in the club. Although this current PA is leased to us at a considerably low mates rate given its quality and amount of time we’ve had it, the rental cost for still takes a significant financial toll on us, and is something which we are still paying off for this year period.
Last month out of the blue and extremely generously we got gifted an old PA and amp rack which was used in a old Glasgow venue. (6x EAW TOPS, 6 x EAW SUBS, 5 x YAMAHA AMPS) which were all sitting unused in a lockup, and gifted to us with varying levels of certainty to the condition of everything. If you were to buy all the gear in working condition you would be paying at least £20,000. After testing all the equipment we have discovered that a significant amount of it needs servicing and upgrading, which is why we need your help!
What specifically are you going to use the £5000 you set out to raise for?
- Servicing amplifiers
- Upgrading and building reggae scoops for subs
- Servicing faulty components in tops
- Purchase of a Crossover
- Cable runs
Whats wrong with continuing to rent the current PA you use ? Why is it beneficial to have your own? Why renovate and upgrade whats been given to you instead of buying a new one?
- Owning our own sound system and having no rental costs will make a huge difference to us financially. Freeing up income for exciting new projects this year.
- If we have to leave our beautiful basement due to the building’s current redevelopment plans, EXIT and this sound system will have the potential to evolve and continue to be an asset to Glasgow and or beyond.
