2020 was a hard year for everyone and some of us are still feeling the effects of lockdown.
This is why I want to create an exhibition that focuses on the experience of isolation that will hopefully enable people to reconnect over shared experiences.
A bit about the exhibition
My exhibition will explore how our relationships with ourselves have changed during the pandemic. While presenting a relatable narrative I will delve into the issues most people faced when coming to terms with isolation. This show will feature beautifully detailed rugs depicting the complex experience of lockdown. It will also be an immersive event, I’ll be using mirrors to juxtapose the soft tufted textures to create an eye-catching space perfect for photo opportunities and exploring our own identities through art. The interactive aspect also invites people to investigate their own reflections and think about how much they’ve grown since 2020 while also reconnecting with others.
A bit about me
With my 2020 plans crushed by the pandemic, I, like many, found myself wondering what I was going to do with my life. I had just graduated from university the summer before with no real direction on where to go within the art world. I’d pick up jobs here and there, barely calling myself a freelance Illustrator but demand was slow, you get it, struggling artists and all that.
Then a friend showed me how to tuft. I was ecstatic that I could combine my two passions (Textiles and Illustration) to create these amazing detailed rugs and tufted mirrors that everyone seemed to really enjoy. I felt like I had some direction again and thanks to so much support already I was making commissions and I felt where I needed to be.
Now I have been given the opportunity to present my first ever exhibition at Pen Gallery. As this is my biggest achievement yet, I am delighted and ready to wow my audience.
I have a clear vision, I just need the financial help to achieve it to the best of my ability. Although creating rugs is an expensive process I’m not asking for much, just money to cover materials costs.
Materials include things such as:
I wouldn't usually ask for help to cover material costs. As I’m making pieces with the intention of being more suited for a gallery space than someone’s home it is uncertain whether the pieces I create will sell, so it would be a weight off my shoulders to have some support in this area.
If you want to get something out of this crowdfunder I am offering rewards for donations. Prints and prices are listed below:
