I myself started Essex Underground Radio in 2022, off the back of seeing how Lockdown was for many people. I had an idea to start a radio station where we could accept almost anyone into it, whether they are learning to DJ or present radio, lack in confidence, or just do not have their own platform to gain exposure. This was key for me initially as most radio stations wouldn't even listen to a demo if you sent one in & the bigger stations probably wouldn't even open your email.

As well as the above Our vision now is to operate a musical hub to communicate with likeminded people, those struggling with mental heath and to create a safe space for all within the community.

So we became part of Haverhill Community in Suffolk CB9, (a central location where we integrate Essex, Suffolk & Cambridge) where we have built our radio broadcasting studio & gained the interest of much of the community pulling in over 5.4k listeners and over 12k social media views every month.

Alongside running our radio platform with have opened up a small section of our studio for locals to come and podcast. In time we hope this will help generate some income & help us in becoming self sufficient.

We offer advertising packages to local businesses and this helps us to pay some of the monthly bills.

As all community projects it has inevitable running costs which mount up and become challenging over time.

With your help, Essex Underground can provide opportunities such as training, local news, support for local charities and projects, a platform for residents to share their skills and interests and much more.
