A Squirrel Esquire is fundraising for
ASPIRE RYDE
Charity No. 1163336
£419
At some points during the walk, we stop close to main roads. To ensure everyone can hear what 'Florence Chandler' says, there is a maximum of 12 on each walk. In previous years, numerous people have booked, then not turned up, stopping others who wanted to join from doing so. For this reason we are now asking everyone to pay beforehand. All money raised goes to support Aspire Ryde. Please inform the walking festival as soon as possible if you are unable come so that your place can be given to someone else. Thank you.
Aspire provides numerous activities and support for the community, including an affordable Soft Play area for children and free cooked lunch most weekdays. It has now been commissioned by the Isle of Wight Council to run ’Living Well and Early Help Service’. By supporting people to stay safe, strong, well, independent and connected to the local community, it cuts down on expensive ‘crisis’ intervention.
In addition to raising funds through leading walks, I make felted squirrels and hedgehogs which will be available on the walk with the profit going to Aspire.
By supporting Aspire Ryde you are helping those less fortunate than yourself to enjoy their lives a little more.
Aspire - The Beginings
When only a dozen people were attending Holy Trinity Church regularly, it was closed and the congregation moved. Aspire Ryde was set up. It bought the building and now uses it to help the local community. Numerous groups provide activities to combat loneliness and boost people's confidence.
Weekly footfall is around 2,000 with 'free food and fun' offered during school holidays to those on benefits. Within a couple of years of opening, Aspire received The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service and was visited by the now Duchess of Edinburgh.
My husband (that’s him making her Royal Highness laugh) and I have been volunteering at Aspire since we retired several years ago.
