About Our Project:
The Isle of Eriskay, a small island in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, is rich in history, culture, and heritage. We are redeveloping the old Eriskay School, a historic building that once served as the community hub, hosting events such as wedding receptions, cinema screenings, Christmas parties, and ceilidh's. Our goal is to transform it into a vibrant community wellbeing asset where we can celebrate our heritage and culture.
Project Goals:
- Historical Preservation: The old Eriskay school will be redeveloped into a Heritage Centre for our historical society to preserve our heritage and culture, rescuing this significant building for community use.
- Community Hub: The redeveloped space will provide much-needed employment and a socialising hub for both the community and visitors, offering a range of facilities such as a museum and gallery, flexible office accommodation, gym/sauna, and community library.
- Visitor Center: The project will create a visitor welcome point, helping visitors to get their bearings and discover what Eriskay has to offer.
- Sustainability: We aim to address the climate crisis and promote social and physical wellbeing, with a focus on energy generation and conservation.
This project will not only preserve our rich heritage but also create lasting social, economic, and health improvements for the community, making plenty of new memories along the way.
