Comann Each nan Eilean

The Eriskay Pony is categorised as ‘Critical’ by The Rare Breeds Survival Trust as there are less than 300 breeding females in the UK. In the Outer Hebrides where the ponies originate, there are less than 50 breeding females. The Eriskay Pony and its descendants are the only pure-bred pony breeds remaining from the numerous ponies that used to roam throughout Scotland and more importantly the Outer Hebrides, where they played an important role in the lives and economy of the people. Comman Each nan Eilean -The Eriskay Pony Society was established in 1972 with the sole purpose to preserve the breed and to promote the breed throughout the Outer Hebrides firstly as well as on the mainland.
