The problem of period poverty has been exacerbated by Covid-19 and lockdown restrictions.
A survey by Plan International UK found that in the UK, almost of third of young people aged between 14 and 21 struggled to either afford or access menstrual products while at home during the first lockdown.
More than half of the respondents said they have used toilet paper as an alternative to period products.
This is NOT acceptable.
Everyone deserves a dignified and healthy period.
The support for our initial crowdfunder back in August was incredible and as much as we wish it was possible, one crowdfunder was never going to solve period inequality.
Thanks to your generosity, since September 2020, we have distributed over 1000 packs of pads and more than 200 boxes of tampons to existing support organisations and those faced with financial hardship and homelessness.
We have also provided over 500 pads and 510 pairs of clean pants for 17 primary schools between Carnlough and Whitehead.
We are currently putting together 100 'grab bags' for local secondary schools and aiming to provide pads and pants for 12 more primary schools in Carrickfergus & Greenisland.
The thing about periods is.. generally speaking, they happen every month so the need for us to provide these essential items isn't going away.
The second wave of covid19 has brought with it new restrictions and more people are now facing financial hardship so, we need to keep going.
If you are in a position to help, please consider pledging to our December 2020 appeal.
