We are in the process of introducing Engineering Science as an option choice for our pupils for the first time at McLaren High School. The course helps candidates develop an understanding of the wide ranging impact of engineering on our society. Pupils learn about the central role of engineers as designers and problem-solvers, able to conceive, design, implement and operate complex systems.
Bridge building challenge!
A core aspect of the National 5 and Higher courses is knowledge and understanding of key concepts related to mechanical, structural and pneumatic systems and their application. They develop skills in problem-solving and evaluating through simulation, practical projects and investigative tasks in a range of contexts.
We are aiming to raise £2200 to buy pneumatics equipment for Engineering Science. We have already secured a generous donation of £500 towards this from Natural Power, as well as a £500 grant from the Institude of Mechanical Engineers.
This equipment will give our pupils relevant, hands-on experience of building engineering systems for many years to come.
Any extra money we manage to raise will go towards additional equipment to support the delivery of Higher Engineering Science in future years.
