Emmaus North East is a homelessness charity with a difference – providing more than just a bed for the night to people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion. One of 29 communities across the UK, Emmaus North East provides a home for as long as is needed, meaningful work experience in one of our social enterprises, funded training and an opportunity for the formerly homeless people we support to get back on their feet. Situated in South Shields, our community has the capacity to support up to 22 formerly homeless people, known within Emmaus as companions. Companions support work in the community’s social enterprises, which range from house clearances, stock collection, merchandising in one of our charity shops, working in our community launderette or making bespoke items out of recycled wood in the workshop.
