This is your opportunity to support us to raise £25,000 per year for the next five years to celebrate our centenary. Vive the Guild!

Our Future – Vive The Guild!

The EFG has had a great 95 years of success. On the occasion of the Guild’s 75th birthday, the Observer Film Critic Philip French, noting our contribution, said ‘Vive the Guild!’ . Twenty years later, the Guild is alive and well.  And the Guild has never had public funding.

When Filmhouse closed, the Guild lost access to our cinema, our education rooms and archive. The Guild remains solvent and continues to function as an arts organisation, registered charity and company limited by guarantee, run by volunteers.

The Guild is resilient. The Guild is not a venue—it is a cinema without walls. We continue to show films and run education courses in other community venues as we have every year for the last 95 years. Our doors have never closed.

The Guild continues to expand, support, and uplift film culture, to make cinema an essential part of community life for everyone in Edinburgh.

In 2030, our organisation celebrates its centenary, the Guild will continue its ongoing contribution to cultural cinema in Edinburgh and Scotland. It’s what the Guild does. It’s in our DNA.

This is your opportunity to support us to raise £25,000 per year for the next five years to ensure that in Edinburgh, the Festival of Film is all year round.

This is our vision. Vive The Guild!
