15th July 2022Ecological Farm for Bath - 6 months in!
To all our crowdfunder supporters, we hope you are keeping well.
We wanted to send you an email with some updates of the last 6 months! With all your amazing support we have created an entire no-dig market garden at Weston Spring Farm, planted an orchard of apple, pear and medlar, a nuttery, a coppice of hazel and willow and reinstated the previously neglected hedgerow. We have started growing food in the alley ways between the tree rows, alongside wildflowers strips and berry bushes interplanted between the trees. We have been able to invest in tools, machinery and organic compost which have helped us to upscale and run more efficiently, and are immensely grateful to all the volunteers who have helped us get to where we are!
It has certainly been a busy yet fantastic year of fulfilling our ambitions of upscaling our food production and continuing to train the next generation of ecological farmers! We are delivering 110 veg boxes per week and have more than doubled in wholesales, local, chemical free and ecologically sensitive food is now reaching more people than ever before. Our 3 trainees are halfway through their time with us and we are continuing to support and mentor last year's trainees who have gone on to start market gardens of their own - Marcus will be at the Batheaston Market tomorrow selling his produce! We couldn't be prouder :)
As you know, we wanted to be delivering more workshops, tours and generally having much more people visit the land, learning and enjoying with us. However, behind the scenes we have been going through some pretty rough challenges, which you can read about here in our latest post:
https://www.middlegroundgrowers.com/post/keeping-hope-alive-in-the-darkest-night
We apologise to anyone who was looking forward to enjoying a workshop or tour and please be reassured that we are equally as excited and eager to get these into motion as soon as the coast is clear. We thank you for your patience and continued support.
In other exciting news, we have welcomed two new bee hives onto the farm which are managed by a lovely bee keeping fellow, and they are buzzing to be in their new pollen rich home. Livi and Sammy are expecting their first baby quite soon and we have a new team member on board called Sam focusing on veg box and CSA co-ordination and has been amazing to have on board.
We will be in touch as soon as we have an update or more clarity on the situation of challenges discussed in the blog post, if you would like to check out more recent pictures of what we have been up to please visit our instagram page @middlegroundgrowers and our website for more blogs!
We are so grateful to all of you who have helped make this dream a reality and move forward the ecological food growing movement that our earth and people need.
Love and veg,
Middle Ground Growers
