DIRECTOR'S NOTES
We aim to tell the story of an intimate family perspective, mainly with a father pushing his need for the perfect nuclear family.
It is a drama focusing on a complex, delicate, and emotionally close relationship between two implant family users and a mother refusing to embrace the implant.
Through a web of lies, the story reveals Jonathan’s delusion and loneliness as a means to find purpose and a sense of control. Additionally, the story challenges the ethics of psychological Augmented Reality as we slowly merge technology with the human mind.
The question is: “If you can’t tell the difference between reality and fiction, does it matter?”
A DYED IN THE WOOL SHORT - "CREDULITE"
As part of our Crowdfunding project, we were adamant about showing a glimpse of the"Dyed in the Wool" world through this 'short short' - showcasing the implant/Credulite's indistinguishable reality.
Filmed as a workshop exercise, the story you just watched is part of the project we are crowdfunding for; "Dyed in the Wool" -
Excerpt of "Dyed in the Wool" - (Credulite will be underlined)
"Jonathan Payne makes a startling admission of crying that day, leading to a tense discussion about his latest case defending a young man accused of killing his augmented reality father, a case that could damage the reputation of the powerful company Credulite, to which Clara finds ambiguous and unsettling."
OUR FICTIONAL PRODUCT
The brand and its titular product "Credulite" allow people to experience and share augmented reality experiences with nothing more than a brain implant, represented by a small scar at the base of the skull by the user's ear.
Credulite allows for the shared creation and emulation of people and pets - alongside the alteration of senses.
Inspiration for this product derives from Neuralink and Apple's Vision Pro headset.
PERSONAL MOTIVATIONS
Joshua R. Baldassarre
On an ethical level, with recent developments in Artificial Intelligence, it’s easy to see society getting lost in the ease of video and photo generation replacing human art. With the speed of this technology’s development “Dyed In The Wool” can shed light on the potential close future, a dystopia disguised as a utopia, a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
On a more personal level, the aspect of Clara’s miscarriage evokes a strong connection as my mother experienced a miscarriage when I was young, and we still have conversations to this day of a “What if?” nature. The child’s upbringing was a commonplace of speculation, a driving force of Jonathan’s motives in this short film.
Francesco Aldersons
My emotional connection to the film stems from the difficulties of my conception. In a family where a daughter would ask for a younger brother for Christmas, there would be a possibility I would never complete the family that is today.
Additionally, as someone who aspires to be a father one day, this story resonates deeply with my determination to prove myself as a capable and inspiring parent, even if that could involve delusions. This desire feels particularly urgent given the sharp decline in fertility rates and family structure.
