I am starting my own dreadlock business, based in South Wales UK, where I shall be offering dreadlocking services to clients ranging from temporary braid in locs to creating and maintaining permanent dreadlocks.
I have been signed off from my full time job due to anxiety and have needed to find another career where I can work my own hours and draw on other skills that I have. I have always been interested in hairdressing and completed a Level 2 Hairdressing course over 20 years ago. Unfortunately, at the time, I was unable to persue my dream of becoming a hairdresser due to the wages that an entry level hairdresser would be paid, which, when offset against my household finances was not viable. I then chose to persue office based jobs that paid better at the time. I got stuck in a spiral of working office jobs until last year when, after having to take time off for anxiety, I changed careers. I moved over into a customer facing role which has impacted my mental health further and I have been unable to return to work as the job is not suitable for myself and my anxieties.
I have spent a lot of time thinking about what makes me happy and the one thing I come back to time and again is hair.
So why dreadlocks and becoming a qualified loctician? Well, firstly I have my own, permanent dreadlocks. I want to enable others to feel the confidence I have since having mine installed. I also want to be able to share in others' hair journey by helping to create and maintain their dreadlocks, share my experiences, hair care tips and offer advice to others seeking to start their journey. Dreadlocks, for me, have enabled me to be more confident in myself, they are a form of personal expression and personality and I want to share these feelings with others, helping them to achieve their hair dreams and feel more confident.
I am looking for £1740 to cover the cost of my training. Any donations, however big or small will be gratefully received and go towards the start of my dream career.
