The Story
The story follows Steven, an overly optimistic door-to-door knife salesman. When working his first day he is repeatedly rejected. Steven comes across someone who is finally interested, and thinks that his luck has changed. Unfortunately for him, the new customer is a serial killer.
The film is a dark comedy horror, which will take you on an adventure from pure laughter, to being on the edge of your seat. If you like films such as Chainsaw Massacre and Shaun of the Dead, this is the perfect blend.
The Look
Our story is inspired by 80s horror, therefore we want the aesthetic to match the time. In Pete’s house, we aim to have the loud, vibrant carpets and brown furniture in the living room, highlighted by warm lamps with quirky shades. The vibe of this space is meant to represent all things welcoming in a home, yet clearly something is not right. The clutter and decay in the room, along with crumpled bits of paper and strange stains lining the sofa leaves an unsettling feeling. Aside from the set physicalities, the green undertones added on screen with high contrast shadows, mark each wrinkle and smirk on Pete’s face - just to top off the feeling of unease.
Where Pete’s house is dark and gloomy, outside on the sidewalk with Steven, everything is bright and saturated. The vibe reflects Steven’s enthusiasm, as he beams with his head held high on his first day of work. Even after every rejection, the colour remains strong, complimenting his baby blue tie and contrasting with anything remotely negative. When Pete opens his door to him, it seems the house begins to drain the colour right off of him, as he enters, the colour on his face becomes muted and the light of the day is swallowed up by the darkness waiting inside.
Budget
Most of the budget for this film will be going towards the cast to get the best people to bring the characters to life. Pete’s house is very important to the film as it creates the creepy and tense atmosphere we see throughout these scenes. Other areas which the budget will be going towards are props, travel and festivals.
