Aim: Mr. Brake Down is back for 2024 with the return of his bluesy boozy Tom Waits tribute show, and he needs your support to make it!

About This Year's Show:

In this laid-back cabaret show filled with vocal impersonations, live singing, and bluesy banter, drag king Mr. Brake Down pays tribute to the wit and wonderment of the iconic Tom Waits. Gloriously odd and experimental, the show takes audiences on a musical journey through some of Waits's seminal works. Mr. Brake Down expounds on just how much a drag king from South Wales might have in common with the California-born performer. Expect to be bemused in a highly enjoyable fashion by a show that must be seen to be believed!

After bringing 6 shows over the last two years to the Fringe, Mr. Brake Down is back with the continuing success of Doom & Glitter. This bluesy drag king cabaret with a unique approach to experimental performance and vocal impersonation has evolved, reflecting a year into his transition on testosterone. As a disabled and trans drag king, writer, host, and singer, Doom & Glitter is more than a tribute act—it's a realisation of dreams and a showcase of trans artistry shining through music that inspires both professional and personal lives.

What Your Donations Cover:

There are plenty of costs associated with Fringe, and some are more obvious than others, but even artists supported by funds such as Keep It Fringe don't get anywhere near the startup cash they need to get their shows to Edinburgh, let alone cover the cost of living and promoting themselves when they're up there. Brake has been very fortunate to receive an upfront grant of £2000 from this year's Keep It Fringe Fund once again, but the total cost of a 13-night run this year at the gorgeous Paradise In Augustines still looks a little like this:

Show Registration Fees: £295.20

Venue Hire: £1620

Transport to Edinburgh: £80+

Transportation and travel passes in and around Edinburgh: £60+

Accommodation Stipend: £300

Posters and flyers for marketing: £400+

Web and magazine advertising: £600+

Technician's Fees: £250

Flyerer Fees: £200

Food and Essentials: £200+

This puts the final realistic cost of running a show at Fringe this year at over £4000 for a one-person company, which is done on a budget with big favours from friends and every discount that could possibly be negotiated. This is why your donations matter more than ever to be able to continue the journey of Doom & Glitter from its small niche market to a popular Fringe favourite that fans of the blues can expect to return to for many years to come!
