As a small live music and mini night club style venue, we will not be able to return to normal for a while yet. Live music and DJ events were how we brought money in to cover bills before. After filling out a government guides risk assessment online we soon came to the realisation that it will be a long time before we may see a normal live gig again. The social distancing would allow us to work at around 20% capacity, which will no where near even cover rent alone per month. We have no option but to adapt to survive.
We had already started putting things in place to make our space more adaptable for day time and night time use before the pandemic. The idea was to fit more people in for live events initially. Anyone that has been to a show or a club night will know the vibe is very much dependent on having happy, good time, party people crammed into a small space. Therefore we have decided it’s the ideal time to get the space working as both a specialist coffee shop during the day and utilise our hours. The first thing we have done is build a brand new bar at the front of the venue with a serving hatch for people on the move. The difference is amazing. It looks and feels brighter and more welcoming from this move alone. You will be able to get a coffee from 8am without coming into the bar itself. We are working with expert coffee roasters and will be offering numerous drinks including Coffee, ice coffee and tea all available to take away at the front of the building. Our head barista brings his experience to Dive Hu5 along with our very own coffee brand “Black Market Coffee”. We are hoping to compensate the loss of business on nights by pushing more towards the day time and passing foot trade. Anyone that funds our project will be rewarded with different incentives varying in price. Every penny is going towards just survival. We have had no rent breaks from our private landlord, and although selling shirts helped for a while (Thank you so much if you purchased one) we now have to look at the bigger picture. Thank you for reading, and for your help and support so far!
