We are raising money to help us take 'Disco 2000' to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this Summer. The Fringe is a fantastic way to get new work seen by wider audiences from across the country and the world, as well as garnering some valuable insight into what putting on a professional show entails. It is also a great way to get new talent seen and to open up exciting opportunities for the future. As an all-female team and cast, we are so excited to have our play seen by such a wide audience.
'Disco 2000' is a new play written by Rosa Honey Gatley with Hedge Maze Theatre. The play follows two young girls as they navigate school, boys, tennis club and, 15 years later, adulthood. The themes of female friendship and growing up are central to the play. Rosa Gatley is an aspiring writer and recent graduate based in Manchester, and one of our close friends at Hedge Maze. She made her professional writing debut in 2024 with 'Threshold', at the Royal Exchange Theatre.
We (Hedge Maze Theatre) are an emerging theatre company interested in new writing and poetry, run by recent UoM drama graduates. Since August 2023, we have produced a number of performance evenings, and recently produced an extract performance of a new play at Contact Theatre. 'Disco 2000' will be our first full play as Hedge Maze Theatre, and we hope that it will build and expand our company!
Sadly taking a show to the Fringe is not cheap - accommodation, venue costs and registration fees all add up to make it a difficult and expensive process. Therefore, we are looking to raise funds to help us pay for our venue in Edinburgh, and also contribute towards registration and accom costs. This play and opportunity is something we are all incredibly passionate about, and have been working towards for a long time. We would be unbelievably grateful for any money you can donate so that we are able to cover some costs, and hope that this could be the start of something bigger for our company.
We know there is a lot going on in the world at the moment, and we completely understand that giving to things is difficult and there are a lot of incredible causes to be donating to.
