Our third annual Disability Pride Brighton festival will take place on Sunday, 14th July 2019 at Hove Lawns.

Disability Pride Brighton was set up by local mum, Jenny Skelton, whose daughter had suffered an incident of disability discrimination in the city. Jenny wrote a Facebook post about the incident which went viral and was then picked up by the media.

After hundreds of disabled people contacted Jenny to say they had had similar experiences, she decided to try to do something about eradicating disability discrimination - and Disability Pride Brighton was born. We have a volunteer committee of 12 disabled people plus another 10 disabled people on our volunteer scheme. We have also had masses of support from the local community - for which we are very grateful.

The first year (in 2017), 2,000 disabled people came. Last year, nearly 3,000 disabled people attended the event and we had a great deal of national and local media interest. Many of the visitors said it was the best day of their lives and that it was the only place where they felt truly free to be themselves. So many disabled people (with both visible and invisible disabilities and impairments) have said that Disability Pride has made a huge difference in making life better for them and we think it is essential that the event is held every year.

Sadly, we are short of funding this year and we are having to start this Crowdfunder. By donating to our event, you will be able to help disabled people feel as though they have a right to celebrate being themselves - simply a natural part of the diversity of human life.

We hope that we can count on your help to enable disabled people, their families, friends, carers and allies to have another brilliant celebration this year.

Please also come along to celebrate with us!

Many thanks

Jenny and the Disability Pride Brighton committee
