DISABILITY AND DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS
DDP works with partner organizations to help build a society where disabled and other marginalized and vulnerable people have equal social, economic and civil rights. DDP creates opportunities in education for disabled children, including deaf children, sets up socio-economic programmes and supports partner organizations to advocate for disabled people's rights and influence public policy.

1All round the world, people with disabilities face inequality and exclusion from opportunity. These are serious and growing problems in the UK, but far worse for the many more disabled people who live in lower-income countries where less support is available:
Nepal
We have been working for many years with Nepalese disabled people's organizations (run for and by people with lived experience) in the areas of advocacy for the human rights of disabled people; access to services and support; inclusive livelihoods, education and training; mental and physical health and rehabilitation.
In January 2025, the third and final year of our USAID-funded project was been hit by the disastrous US aid freeze, dashing the hopes of those waiting for livelihood support and training, and threatening the future of 5 disability organizations in Nepal.
Ethiopia
Our current project with Berhan Lehetsanat in Ethiopia is to provide inclusive educational, nutritional and psychosocial support to children living in a centre for people displaced by conflict, and local children with disabilities.
In recent years, DDP and our Ethiopian partners have worked on rehabilitation, improving access to primary education for deaf and hard-of-hearing children, tackling harmful traditional practices (such as FGM) affecting women and girls; training and livelihoods; and inclusive education. We have plans for further work on community-based rehabilitation.
India
We are currently supporting our partners at SDET in Tamil Nadu to cater for the needs of children with disabilities at their centre, with the construction of a new accommodation block.
