Aim: We desperately need to raise donations to purchase more wood for the restoration project. We require Oak and mahogany to repair
Helen Wycherley Heritage Association, a registered charity dedicated to preserving and restoring the historical lifeboat, Helen, which was constructed in 1962. In the serene harbor of Whitby, Helen has been an unsung sentinel of our maritime history, but for more than 25 years, she has been left neglected, falling into a state of disrepair. Now, as we embark on an ambitious restoration project, we seek your invaluable support to breathe life back into this important piece of our heritage.
Helen represents not just historical significance, but also a beacon of hope for young disabled children, especially those grappling with ADHD and learning difficulties. With your support, we envision transforming her into a sanctuary for respite, educational opportunities, and vocational tours aimed at providing solace for families in need. Our mission is to ensure that Helen serves the community, keeping English heritage alive, while addressing pressing mental health needs.
The significance of Helen goes beyond mere wood and copper nails; she has saved countless lives at sea. It is a profound loss that a vessel with such a heroic past should face the risk of disappearing forever through neglect. We cannot let history slip through our fingers. The Helen Wycherley Heritage Association’s goal is to restore this remarkable vessel to her former glory, thereby preserving her for generations to come.
