Raising awareness of dementia and raising funds to provide specialist support to carers, families and their loved ones living with dementia

by Sleights Community Hub in Guisborough, England, United Kingdom

Lee AKA the Spud Doctor and his family unfortunately are affected by dementia, sadly Lee’s hero (his dad) is now living with dementia.

Lee took to social media after his dad was recently diagnosed with dementia, describing how life changing it is, as no one truly understands until dementia affects you or your loved one.

Lee set up a page ‘Dementia Awareness From My Heart’ through the power of social media and Lee sharing his story on Facebook, Lee met Jade; a local specialist dementia nurse and Jade shared her story with Lee.

Jade is the founder of Sleights Community Hub, a non-profit community organisation which is nurse led by Jade and provides specialist support: A warm space and community cafe offering free advice, support, information and signposting to carers and older adults, and their loved ones living with dementia, related conditions, MS, Parkinsons, aging, older people and frailty.

Through collaboration Lee, Jade and Sleights Community Hub are on a mission to raise awareness of dementia and raise money to support carers, families and their loved ones living with dementia.

All the money raised through ‘Dementia Awareness From My Heart’ will go to Sleights Community Hub to continue to provide specialist support including warm space, refreshments, advice, support, information, education, activities, events, days out and so much more.

Lee is starting off the fundraising by doing the first of many walks. (Including a marathon walk in October with Jade, yes that’s right, 26.2 miles around Teesside)

Lee will do his FIRST WALK ON SATURDAY APRIL 5th, 2025, meeting at the Starting Gate Pub, Redcar at 9am.

The walk will journey around Redcar on a flat accessible route, it will be 4 - 5 miles in total and take approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.

Bring your friends, family, work colleagues, kids, neighbours and your dog: every one is welcome.

Let’s get behind Lee and Jade and Sleights Community Hub to continue to provide specialist support to carers and their loved ones living with dementia in our community.
