Imagine all you’ve ever wanted was to become a mother. And finally after years and years of trying and wishing it finally happens. You’re pregnant. And you’re so incredibly happy and overjoyed but then suddenly you miscarry. And that miscarriage is long and painful and complicated. Your body is exposed for an extreme amount of time you develop a deadly infection. But even though you’re at the hospital, surrounded by doctors and healthcare professionals, you’re legally not allowed to get the life-saving care you need.
Death’s Doors is a heart-breaking short drama that follows Johanna and Felix, a happy couple as they go through that exact situation. After she miscarries her health declines rapidly. A nurse urges the doctor to perform a life-saving abortion, but under strict abortion laws, his hands are tied—he cannot act until Johanna is at death’s door.
When Johanna finally goes into septic shock, the doctor is suddenly free to act. Racing against time, he and Mary battle to save her. But after so much delay, the chances are slim. Have they waited too long?

Due to having to source actors from beyond the university, and needing to create a comfortable set for the actors to express themselves vulnerably on, we have decided we need a small budget of £200.
This will cover transport for the cast, food on set, props and costume. We want to ensure the authenticity and accuracy of this topic and create a beautiful film that helps people understand the realities that women face everywhere.
