About the play
Best friends get each other, don't they?
Dead End is an intimate, funny and poignant play about two childhood friends who realise that they have been growing apart. Bea and Olivia have two distinctive views of what success means and question their respective paths in life. Their friendship is tainted by their fading relationship, shared history and a secret that resurfaces from the past.
I wrote Dead End recently as I wanted to explore constructing a play in (almost) real time which feels conversational. I was interested in setting the action in a craft studio and bringing in a character who has a different experience of doing business. I wanted to explore the opposition between the idea of pursuing creative endeavours that don’t necessarily guarantee an income and having to earn a living to survive. Olivia is worried about the state of the world while Bea thinks that having savings in the bank is the way to secure the future. The catalyst for their conversation is a call to Bea from Olivia’s mum and we’ll soon learn that a hidden secret has contributed to their friendship fading away.
Why asking for your help?
Bringing this play to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival would mean everything to us. The team and I are excited at the prospect of visiting the Fringe and sharing the work with a new audience, get the opportunity to make industry connections and meet other artists. However, it is hugely expensive. We’re pleased to have secured a venue at TheSpace on the Mile, which is a great opportunity, but covering the venue costs will be impossible without any extra financial help.
So, this is why we have set up this Crowdfunder. Your kind contributions will help towards covering the venue hire and insurance. Without this, our hopes of going to the Fringe are seriously compromised.
We are so excited to bring new writing to the Fringe Festival and we would be so grateful for your support.
You can choose between a straightforward donation or buy a reward package which we hope you’ll find exciting. Every bit of help makes a huge difference!
We had a lot of fun making props for Dead End and you have a chance to own a copy through the rewards.
When donating, please note that the platform adds a tip automatically but you can set this to zero (it doesn't add to our pledge).
Finally, we would love to see you in Edinburgh. Here's where you can find us on instagram to follow our journey:
