The Centre is owned by Maidstone Borough Council but volunteers from the Downswood Community Association (established in 1986) have managed the community centre exclusively and successfully since the opening in October 1990.
Maidstone Borough Council who lease the centre to the DCA take very little interest in the Community Centre and the DCA General Committee make all the decisions concerning what goes on at the centre.
The only income the Downswood Community Association receive is from hiring fees and fund raising events, we receive no regular grants or funding whatsoever. All maintenance, repairs, renewals, damages, insurance, licensing and all utility bills must be paid for by the the Downswood Community Association.
We have many regular groups (Monday to Friday) at the centre, but we do not allow regular groups to hire at weekends, this is for private hiring’s, children or family parties, shows etc. and we always charge a special deposit for weekend hiring’s.
