DBE Bowls Buddies Great North Run 2023

My name is Dan Todner and I have been playing bowls for over 20 years. I bowl indoor at Houghton and outdoor at Houghton Dairy Lane. It’s a sport that I have loved since my Grandads took me way back when I was still in school. 

I know the sport is not awash with money and the Disability side even less so due to the price of equipment etc so when I was asked by a friend of many many years Steve Angus I was all too happy to help. 

2023 will be my 10th Great North Run and I hope to raise money for a great cause in DBE.

Daniel joins the Bowls Buddies family which was set up in 2020 for people who wanted to do something different and raise much needed funds for Disability Bowls England, our first buddies were 2 bored bowlers Michelle Coleman & John Rednall, who haven’t been able to play the sport they love during lockdown have ‘buddied’ up to raise funds for Disability Bowls England by challenging themselves to run 250k between them in August. John clocked a total of 161.34km and Michelle has clocked another 100.1km. (Total 262.35km – 163 miles, 30 yards).

Then in 2021 - Edward Morris (DBE Cycling Buddy from Essex County Bowling Club Cadets) cycled 100Kns around his local clubs in Essex and Emily Ferguson (DBE Running Buddy from Appleyard BC, Kent) &  Robbie Barker (DBE Running Buddy from St Neots BC, Cambridgeshire) who run the 2021 Virtual London Marathon all 26.2 miles each.
