The 6 Nations challenge
In an exciting and ambitious effort to raise money, staff member, Mr Norman—avid rugby player, passionate fan, and dedicated office manager—has decided to run a total of 362 kilometers to honor the spirit and community values of our school's mascot, Oswald the owl.
Timed perfectly to coincide with the 6 Nations Rugby tournament, Mr Norman will cover this distance in just 7 weeks, running approximately 11 kilometers each school day for 32 days.
His journey will cover the distance between St Oswald’s CE primary school and the Allianz stadium in Twickenham, home to the English rugby union team. This is not only a test of endurance but also a heartfelt mission to rebuild the sculpture of Oswald the owl, our beloved school mascot.
The importance of Oswald the owl
For many years, a wooden sculpture of Oswald the owl has stood proudly at the entrance of St Oswald’s school, greeting families and pupils every day. Representing wisdom, service, and community, Oswald has been more than just a symbol, he embodies the core values that make our school unique.
"Sadly, last year, Oswald was weather damaged beyond repair. This has left a noticeable gap in the heart of our school’s atmosphere, as the owl is such a crucial part of our ethos".
The funds raised through Mr Norman's challenge will go directly towards commissioning a new, stunning sculpture of Oswald, which will once again take pride of place at the school’s entrance.
Mr Norman's challenge is a huge undertaking, but with your support, we can make this a success for the school and its future. Here’s how you can help:
1. Donate to the fundraising campaign: Every penny counts. Donations will go directly towards the new sculpture. If we exceed our target, extra funds will be used to commission class animal mascots to join Oswald the owl.
2. Follow Mr Norman's progress: Stay updated on his runs and celebrate his milestones throughout the 32-day journey. Your encouragement will fuel his motivation to keep going.
3. Sponsor Mr Norman's run: Show your support by sponsoring Mr Norman for each kilometer he runs or make a flat donation. We will be updating our fundraising page regularly for you to see how your contributions are helping to bring Oswald the owl back to life.
Mr Norman's run is not just about covering 362 kilometers—it’s about community, resilience, and honoring the values that make St Oswald’s CE primary school so special. By coming together and supporting this incredible challenge, we can make a lasting impact on our school and ensure that Oswald the owl is once again a symbol of pride for all.
