Not quite
Unfortunately this project was not successful.

We want to see a bright, positive outcome, shaped by some of our darkest moments - to ensure that Cyril's memory shines on.

For many years, I suffered in my own home, subjected to coercive and violent behaviour, resulting in 169 police incidents. I thought I had to suffer alone, too scared to speak up.

I thought I was alone. Now I know I am not.

  • 1 in 4 women are victims of domestic abuse
  • Last year the police recorded over 1.5m incidents relating to domestic abuse.
  • Costing the NHS 2.3m each year.

As a 'Domestic Abuse Escapist' I have used this lived experience to create a positive and potentially life-saving solution for vulnerable women who are at risk in their own homes.

Cyril's capacity to monitor changes in normal routine, and the ability to set discreet alarms on everyday household appliances, can be pivotal in protecting those who are currently living with domestic abuse.

Let’s look at the scenarios from the video. ‘He broke in my house while I was at work/ he hid in the cellar.

The application would activate an intruder alarm, the location data highlights that Joanne usually leaves for work at around 7 43 and returns from 5 40. But today, there is activity within her home. A push notification will be sent directly to Joanne and her appointed next of kin to advise Joanne to seek help.

He locked me in the bathroom.

The sensors would have detected that Anna had been locked in the bathroom for 8 hours, and this is abnormal to her normal routine.

I couldn’t reach my panic alarm.

We have created the ability to set discreet alarms on everyday household appliances using energy data spikes. For example, turning a kettle on/off/on. A Silent alarm is triggered without the dependency of physically activating a panic alarm.

This can be pivotal in protecting those who are currently living with domestic abuse.

I couldn’t do this alone, I collaborated with a bunch of likeminded upstarts.

Why are we here?

  • Cyril exists because not everyone is lucky enough to have someone to look out for them at home.
  • Motivated by a series of events that could have been prevented, we are unswerving in our intention to give vulnerable people power, independence, control and a level of safety in their own home that has previously been impossible to achieve.
  • We want to see a bright, positive outcome, shaped by some of our darkest moments - to ensure that Cyril's memory shines on.

What matters to us?

LIGHT

  • Shining a light on positive outcomes gives us the motivation to be our best. Everyone has darker times, and we've had our fair share - but without the determination to see a way through, Cyril would not exist.

MOVEMENT

  • We're a curious bunch of upstarts, always wanting to move things on, change things for the better and find a clear route through even the hardest terrain.

TOUCH

  • An arm around your shoulder, a steadying hand at your elbow, a celebratory high five.
  • Human touch at just the right time can make the world of difference.
  • It's vital that we know how to balance technology with human intelligence, placing control back in the right hands.

Cyril exists because not everyone is lucky enough to have someone to look out for them at home.

Our Vision

Cyril sees a future where even the most vulnerable people, feel safe and looked after in the comfort of their own home. Where strength is in the hands of those who need it. Where care is intuitive and pressure on those who give it is eased. A time when exactly the right kind of help - for those who daren't or can't ask for it, is more freely given.

Our Mission

Is to use everything in our power, to help those who have had theirs diminished, either through illness, circumstance or the behaviour of those around them. Oversight for those who have been overlooked. We call upon our experience of living with illness, caring for older family members, or escaping from abusive relationships, and our many years spent working within the healthcare system. We use our technical expertise to continuously solve real problems, with our focus always on making things better for people. We will enable more people to remain in their homes, feeling safe, protected and understood.

And we won't stop!
