We are Sweet Beef, a queer, working class-led theatre collective. This year, we are taking our show CRYING SHAME to the Edinburgh Fringe - and we need your support.
ABOUT THE SHOW:
Step inside Club Fragilé, a dusty dreamscape where you’ll encounter washed-up cabaret acts, filthy lip-syncs and a joyous celebration of queer culture, as these camp clowns try – and possibly fail – to connect with you (I know, how embarrassing).
You might be lonely, but you're definitely not alone.
Based on interviews conducted by the team across the UK, Crying Shame is a a cabaret-show-cum-wellness-journey all about loneliness.
ABOUT THE JOURNEY SO FAR:
Sweet Beef have been making form-breaking, interactive, and experimental work which explores socio-political issues that affect us with a healthy dose of comedy, dance and drag. Our works I HATE IT HERE and CRYING SHAME have been performed around the UK to sold out performances and raving reviews (★★★★★ Corr Blimey, ★★★★★ The Student).
Crying Shame are this year's recipients of The Pleasance Theatre's Charlie Hartill Award that provides one early-career theatre ensemble company to present a fully produced ensemble performance at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. With the support of The Pleasance and the Keep it Fringe Fund, we are fortunate to be able to take our first ever show up to the Edinburgh Fringe.
Despite the financial support we have so far, we are footing more than 60% of costs (approximately £24k) and need your help.
YOUR SUPPORT
70% of costs goes towards paying cast and creatives an equitable rate (set slightly above equity fringe minimum). 20% covers physical production and another 15% covers key marketing assets.
As a working-class-led organisation, our main priority is that we pay our artists an equitable rate and that no one is left financially burdened when creating work with us. As such, donations to this crowd funder will - in the first instance - go towards creative fees.
