Transkei, Rural East Coast of South Africa
Last week a few Wild Coast Cottage owners decided to raise funds for the purchase & delivery of food parcels for 2 villages around Mpande & Sinangwana in the Transkei. 4 days later we'd raised over R80 000 and had delivered over 200 food parcels to over 200 families in these 2 villages.
We would like to do the same for the surrounding villages and repeat the food parcel deliveries. The 20kg food parcel includes staples of samp, beans, maize, rice, oil, sugar etc, and comes at a cost $20. The parcels should feed each family for a month.
Many of these families are unemployed and the outlook within these villages in the “old Transkei” is dire. They have been left behind in the larger picture of national infrastructure development - there is no running water or sewage infrastructure. Combined with the current drop off in tourism due to COVID-19, the next few months for these households will be tough. This crowdfunding initiative aims to assist these families in the shortest possible time.
Over many years, tourists and visitors to this area have come to know many of these families personally - as they welcome you into their community. Relations are always good and warm - these people are kind, welcoming and honest and would be very grateful for any support.
Thank you in advance for any contribution you are able to make. If you are unable to assist please consider sharing the link with anyone you feel might be able to assist. Corporate contributions within South Africa can use NPO number 091 881, and we will supply all tax certificates and letters for BEE purposes.
Keep safe
