 New stretch target

If we raise more money than expected, we will be able to extend the project into neighbouring districts.

We are Community Highlight - a CBO registered in Malawi. Led by the people, for the people of Domasi we run education and health projects across 10 villages.

We pride ourselves on the fact that we are not an emergency aid organisation - we run four schools, a feeding programme, regular HIV awareness events and sustainable projects that are created and led by the community members themselves.

However, as we all know, Covid-19 is currently causing absolute havoc across the globe, and is now a looming threat for our friends in Domasi.

Our schools are closed, all planned project activities have been put on pause and we are now working closely with staff in Malawi to work out the best way to protect our community members.

Following community meetings it's become clear that we must launch an emergency sanitation project. This is not the way we usually like to work but this is absolutely essential at this time as we need to ensure that everyone has access to the facilities and knowledge to keep them safe and healthy.

The project we have designed will ensure all 812 households across 10 villages have access to tip-taps (hand washing facilities as seen in our last sanitation project), soap, information on the virus and information on hand-washing best practice. Anderson will lead the project, with support from the village chiefs and a Health Surveillance Assistant (HSAs) from Machinjiri Hospital.

We know this is a really unsettling time for everyone around the world, and it feels almost perverse to ask for money when many of us have little to no job security and everything feels very all over the place, but for those of you who do see yourselves in a fortunate position and for those of you who maybe have a few more pounds than usual due to pubs being shut we would really appreciate your support.

We are looking to raise £650 in total: this works out to be around £1.25 to protect one person from Covid-19. So even if you just donate that £4 pint of Amstel you could support 3 people in Malawi during this troubling time.

Thanks so much for reading and as always, if you have any questions, feel free to fire away.

Best wishes as ever and zikomo kwambiri from everyone in Domasi,

Evie, Emma, Anderson and the whole Community Highlight Team
