The aim of our project is to raise much needed funds for our small community rugby club and as importantly to receive donations for CALM.

Corsham Rugby Club is a comparatively small, community rugby club set between the larger towns of Bath, Chippenham and Trowbridge. We provide rugby for all age groups from 5 to 18 and currently run two Senior teams. We are a passionate club at the heart of the community, where you will always find a warm welcome.

Obviously, in these uncertain times, all sports clubs are suffering and we are no different. We had planned two large events this summer, both of which have been cancelled due to COVID-19. These events would have produced a very good return, which would have helped hugely in the day to day running of the club during next season. This includes ground maintenance (the grass still needs cutting and you ask any groundsman how much it costs to keep a pitch looking good!), general repairs to the grounds and clubhouse (including a new boiler and shower system), upkeep of machinery and other administrative costs that still have to be paid. We would also rely on membership payments, income from the bar on match days and other events and the continuing support of our sponsors. Because of COVID-19 none of these sources of income are available to us. Therefore we are looking for other means of raising funds to ensure we can continue to operate next season.

As our Committee were considering using Crowdfunder, we had in our minds the obvious plight of many other businesses and also the serious effect that the current crisis is having on the mental health of many people. We are very privileged to have sponsorship from one family who's son tragically took his own life and who used to play for Corsham RFC. We contacted them and asked if they would be agreeable to us moving forward with this project and whether they could propose a charity that they would like to support. They have proposed CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) which is leading a movement against suicide, the single biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK and the cause of 18 deaths every day.

We have therefore agreed that we will split all the donations received equally, so that both Corsham RFC and CALM can benefit from your generosity.

Thank you.
