The aim of this Crowdfunder is to raise enough money for us to pay our first years’ rent, insurance and regulatory registration liabilities.

On the 15th October 2024 we'd raised £1,121 with 36 supporters in 84 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
It is no secret that Cornwall has a social justice crisis, which has been exacerbated by the pandemic and tourism industry. But many people who are at their most vulnerable have had no access to justice and simply cannot afford to pay for legal advice or court representation privately. The small number of law firms and charities that do offer funded or affordable legal services, are overwhelmed.
Unlike most of the UK, Cornwall has never had a Walk-In Law Centre or Legal Clinic. This cannot go on. People have no where to turn when they have been wronged by the NHS, the Police, the Banks, the DWP etc. More and more services are being nationalised so you cannot even speak to another human to air your complaints. The Fob-Off culture has to be stopped.
What sets us apart is that Cornwall Legal Centre CIC (CLC) firstly, is committed to seeking justice for those who are most vulnerable and secondly, we think everyone is vulnerable when it comes to a legal issue, the law is a minefield and the court system is not user friendly.
CLC has been set up as a Community Interest Company, meaning it is Not-For-Profit. Any profits made will be reinvested back into the Company or to the local community. The Directors are two local lawyers, who have been supported by the University of Exeter Business School, Start-Up Programme. Both have already established themselves in areas of law that assist vulnerable people (if you are reading this and they have assisted you before, then please give a small token donation, to show your support) and they now think it is time to see change in the Cornish legal landscape.
CLC will offer low cost services to those who can afford to pay (at around 25% of the cost of a traditional lawyer) and for those who are financially struggling, there will be other funding streams, stemming from pledges already secured with both local and national organisations.
Now, CLC needs your help. Start-Up costs are anticipated to be in the region of £3,000 - £5,000 for the first year. Modest premises have been secured, in the centre of Redruth, which means this is a service which will be fully accesible to those locally, but funds are needed for formalities such as insurances and regulatory registration. To keep costs down, no lawyer salaries will be paid for the first year, so as much time and resource can be given to the community, alongside other commitments.
Please give what you can afford, to a well needed cause.
