About our Project:

Cooking with Languages is designed to make learning a language exciting and interactive. Gone is the tedious studying of verbs and complicated vocabulary from dull textbooks.

At Cooking with Languages, our aim is to make language-learning fun.

We want to encourage more children to enjoy learning languages.

Our first activity cookbook is designed for children learning English or Spanish.

We have many books, apps and materials in the pipeline (basically in Lisa's head and notebooks) and are excited to start making oodles of language-loving superheroes!

WHY are we Crowdfunding?

With your funds, we will be able to produce our fun language learning materials at lower prices making them cheaper to buy so more children can have the gift of language. With more affordable materials we'll also be able to offer them to schools taking our exciting language learning method directly into the classroom. 

Basically, your support will help more children learn languages and have fun while they're doing it! 

Through hard work and dedication, and sometimes trial and error, we have so far learned to:

• create our own characters and designs,
• set up our website,
• design and produce printed books,
• obtain ISBN numbers to enable to publish our own work,
• navigate the various self-publishing platforms,
• have apps developed.

NOW WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Publishing on demand (this is the method where a book is printed as it is ordered and paid for)  is expensive! We want to be able to make our fun materials more affordable and available to more people. We want schools to be able to use our materials.

Basically, the more books we order, the cheaper they are.

With your support, we can produce more affordable materials and grow many more language-loving superheroes.

Research has taught us that there is a lack of learning materials for young Spanish learners so that is where we are starting.

We are currently working with a pre-school and primary teacher in the UK to create materials to be used in the classroom. We believe the sooner children are exposed to foreign languages the better.

Our dream is to produce all our materials in French, German and Italian. We are looking for collaborators to help us to do this. We are also open to all other languages.

Who are we?

My name is Lisa Sadleir. I am the founder of Cooking with Languages and my aim is to do for languages what Jamie Oliver has done for cooking. I'm trilingual myself and passionate about giving children the gift of languages. Conscious that children often see learning as a chore, I've decided it was time to make languages fun.

I’m extremely lucky. I have grown up with languages. Speaking languages has enhanced my life and provided me with so many wonderful opportunities. I am British born, educated in France and I’ve been a resident of Spain for almost 25 years. I am a mother to two amazing bilingual children, Joshua and Francesca (the voices of Arthur and Nerea). 

I have given my children the gift of languages and we now want to share this gift with as many children as possible.

Our mission is to get children motivated about learning languages. We aim to excite and inspire.

That is why we created Cooking with Languages. Our bilingual materials are fun and innovative.

Our first bilingual Activity Cookbook is designed to complement any language learning a child is already studying.It can be used to stimulate ideas in the classroom or to get messy in the kitchen, and learn together at home.  

Our dream is that this book is the first of many.

FAQ's

Q: What age/level of language is the book aimed at?

A: This first activity cookbook is a general book that we designed for people of all ages and all levels, to enjoy together. The initial age group was five to twelve years, however, many adults have said they'd love to use the book too.

Q: Is the book already finished and printed?

A: No. We have printed a draft mock of the Spanish Activity Cookbook for research and feedback purposes. Although the feedback has been amazing, the final product will be even better. This is why we need your support.

Q: Is there a CD to go with the book?

A: No there is not a CD. We want to move with new technologies and have produced an app to test and will also be adding audio to the website. If the apps prove popular we will produce more but they are expensive to produce. We are hoping you will help us decide.

Q: Why are your books not available outside the EU?

A: Postage is expensive. We want to make our books affordable. Upon a successful campaign launch, we will be looking for distributors in different countries. (Please see update above. Limited number now on offer!)
