Preserve the legacy of South Asian women pioneers in Scotland through their recipes and stories, bridging cultures one dish at a time.

"A Taste of Home: Cooking Tales from Scotland's Asian Pioneers"

Picture a young woman from South Asia, stepping off a ship in Glasgow harbor in the 1960s. The air is crisp and unfamiliar, the streets bustling with unknown faces. As she settles into her new life, one thing remains constant - the comforting aromas of spices simmering in her tiny kitchen, a slice of home in a foreign land.

This is just one of the many untold stories waiting to be shared in "Cooking Tales," a unique biographical cookbook that Jasami Publishing is bringing to life with your support.

Initiated by Gauri Raje of Silent Sounds on behalf of The Scottish Asian EKTA Group, this project is more than just a collection of recipes. It's a journey through time, a celebration of cultural resilience, and a tribute to the Asian women who carved out new lives in Scotland during the 1950s, 60s, and 70s.

Each page will transport you to a different kitchen, a different story. You'll meet women who used food as a bridge between cultures, who adapted traditional dishes with local ingredients, and who passed down their culinary wisdom to new generations. Through their recipes and personal anecdotes, you'll witness the beautiful symbiosis of two cultures, united by the universal language of food.

But "Cooking Tales" is more than just a cookbook. It's a historical document, preserving a crucial chapter of Scotland's multicultural story. It's an educational tool, helping future generations understand the journeys of their grandmothers and great-grandmothers. And it's a celebration of the power of food to create a sense of home and belonging, no matter where life takes us.

Our passionate team at Jasami Publishing, along with illustrator Shubrashee Mathur, Cover/Interior Design Joy Dakers, and talented photographer Sonja Blietschau, is committed to bringing these stories to life with the care and respect they deserve. But we need your help to make it happen.

By supporting this crowdfunding campaign, you're not just pre-ordering a book. You're preserving history, celebrating diversity, and ensuring that these important stories are shared with the world. Join us in this culinary journey through time and culture. Let's make sure these cooking tales are told, savored, and remembered for generations to come.

Help us bring "Cooking Tales" to your kitchen and to bookshelves across the UK and beyond. Together, we can create a lasting tribute to the women who brought the flavors of South Asia to Scotland's shores.
