Aim: We have a small community café with an outside gazebo and garden area. We want to replace the gazebo with a conservatory to for use all year
Heene Community Centre, a charity based in Worthing, West Sussex won the Queens Award for Voluntary Service in 2019. We provide a vital hub to the local community and the wider area. We cater for people of all ages and backgrounds. We hire 9 rooms for a variety of activities, including baby groups, art groups, children's ballet and dance, yoga, healthcare, yoga and indoor bowls. We also provide facilities for single people to meet up and make friends so anyone who comes to the Community Centre can feel welcome.
We also have a Café which can be used by anyone. However, we find that when a class has finished we are unable to provide enough seating for users to sit and have a coffee, or a bite to eat, with their friends. Consequently people who would like to do this have to leave and for some people it is important for their mental health to have this time relaxing with friends.
To overcome this issue we have obtained planning permission to replace the existing gazebo with an enclosed conservatory which can be used all year round. This will enable us to seat an extra 28 people. The cost of the conservatory is £50,000 and we would like to raise £25,000 with the Community Centre contributing the remainder
