To empower BAME boys in Salford, providing safe spaces, developing skills, and building stronger communities.

by aron iwanier in Salford, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom

Our Story:
MS Community Trust (Charity Number: 1205755) was born from a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by young boys, aged 8-14, within Salford's BAME community. We recognized that these boys, often navigating language barriers, cultural differences, financial hardship, and social isolation, needed a dedicated space to thrive. The cost-of-living crisis has only exacerbated these difficulties, placing immense pressure on families already struggling to make ends meet. Religious and cultural considerations can further limit access to mainstream support, leaving these boys vulnerable.
We believe that every boy deserves the opportunity to reach his full potential.

Our Mission & Vision:
To provide a nurturing and secure environment where young boys from the BAME community can cultivate their skills and capabilities through a diverse range of extracurricular programs and activities. We are dedicated to enhancing their spiritual and emotional well-being while promoting their social and communicative development. We empower these boys to become well-rounded, responsible individuals equipped to actively engage in society.
Our vision is a Salford where every boy, regardless of background, has the opportunity to flourish, contributing positively to their community.

Our Impact:
We serve over 200 boys ages 7 - 15, offering a lifeline of support and opportunity. Our holistic approach addresses the root causes of social isolation and disadvantage, fostering community integration and cultural understanding. We provide a safe space where boys can build confidence, develop essential life skills, and create lasting bonds with their peers.

Our Programs:
We offer a rich tapestry of activities designed to engage, inspire, and empower:

  • Community-Building Through the Arts:
Weekly singing and dancing workshops culminating in a community choir, fostering connection and self-expression.
  • Inclusive Activities:
Monthly open activities and events at various locations, welcoming all boys to participate.
  • Community Engagement Talks:
Weekly talks by community members, promoting learning, understanding, and social connection.
  • Holistic Well-being:
Twice-weekly sessions on dance/movement therapy, relaxation skills, and small group music therapy led by qualified professionals.
  • Support for Academic Challenges:
A specialized program to assist boys struggling with school due to conditions such as ADHD, improving concentration and group participation.
  • Mentoring:
Three sessions of small group mentoring with a trained mentor, providing guidance, support, and positive role models.
  • Community-Building Events:
Monthly open evenings showcasing dance and music sessions, and three performance visits to diverse community settings.

Project Benefits:
Our programs address key areas highlighted by the initiative:

  • Enhanced Educational Outcomes:
