New stretch target

If we manage to go over our target we will use the money to go on even more trips. The more times we can take the people of Coniston Court out the happier we will be. All money raised will pay for trips out.

Project aim

To raise money to take elderly people out on trips. Some of these people have not left the building in years

Hello, I'm Brian. I am 70 years old and I live in a block of 36 flats (bedsits really) called sheltered housing. The people who live here are from their late 60's to late 90's and its a dull, miserable life. Many of the residents are house bound. A small group of us formed a committee to better the lives of the other residents. We want to raise money to take the residents of Coniston Court out on trips and give them a sense of enjoyment in their later years. In order to make this possible, we need to hire coaches with wheelchair access as we have a few wheelchair users, be able to cover the cost for entry for all participating residents and providing refreshings such as a picnic or a meal at the attraction we visit. We are now hoping to hire coahes big enough to take residents from 2 other sheltered housing schemes out on trips. There are a lot of elderly people stuck in sheltered housing in the same position as Coniston Court and we would like to offer them the oppertunity to come on the trips with us. We can get a lot of people out on some lovely trips and build frendships between the sheltered housing shemes.

It is very expensive to cover these sort of costs and as a result, many of the residents do without seeing the outside world or getting involved in activities to give them a little happiness in their lives.

Many of these people had to give up their youth in the forces and worked in factories as there was a war going on, then they had to work to rebuild the country after the war. Now they are elderly, they are placed in sheltered housing and forgotten about. Many of the residents have not been out of the building for a number of years and have not seen how our beautiful city has changed over time. We would like to get the residents of Coniston Court out of the building and give them some enjoyment in their old age. Your help would be most appriciated.

Due to government cutbacks in recent years there has been a large reduction in funding to help the elderly and grant them a better quality of life. But through hard work and determination we are supported by many local influential people such as:

John P Lee OBE, Cheif Executive of Your Homes Newcastle.

Cllr Matt Myers,

Cllr Karen Kilgour

Cllr Marion Talbot

Any support you can give us would be most apprciated.
