We are Scotland's first designated Snowdrop Village. We want to make Comrie the greatest destination in Scotland to see snowdrops growing in the wild.
TRIUMPH THROUGH ADVERSITY
We started the charity at the beginning of 2025, when thousands of our naturally growing snowdrops were destroyed to make way for a new flood defence wall along the River Earn.
A group of local volunteers saw the need to replace the snowdrops that were lost. Fortunately, we were able to save around 4,000 snowdrops from the construction zone, which were safely replanted in the War Memorial Garden. Sadly, thousands more couldn't be saved. So, our plans grew, and with the support from the local community we were able to fundraise enough money to buy thousands more snowdrops to plant around the village. And so, Scotland's very first designated Snowdrop Village was born!
A FAST GROWING START - So far, we have planted thousands of snowdrops along the Lednock Millennium Footpath to create a circular, all-abilities, winter walking trail. The route takes you along the River Lednock, past the Storytellers Chair, the Weir, and the Laggan Wood Viewpoint. The walk is suitable for people with buggies and wheelchairs. During snowdrop season we plan to hold events around the Storytellers Chair, such as music, storytelling, and craft activities for kids. All the snowdrops we planted here came from Scone Palace, crowning place of the Kings of Scotland, and home to the original Stone of Scone.
EVEN BIGGER PLANS
We want to create a unique identity for the village, and be known as the greatest destination in Scotland to see snowdrops growing in the wild. Our ideal location, at the gateway to the Highlands, places us at the heart of some of the best snowdrop attractions in Scotland, including Scone Palace and the Cambo Estate.
Now that our first snowdrop trail is complete, we aim to create many more winter walking trails around the village, so that residents and visitors can take in everything that Comrie has to offer. Each trail will offer something different, from village gardens and river walks to mountain views! And there'll be something for people of all ages and abilities, to encourage a little outdoor activity and promote wellbeing.
We will plan a week-long festival, with activities and events, to coincide with the Scottish Snowdrop Festival, which takes place annually between January and March. Residents and visitors can look forward to activities such as candlelit walks, live folk music performances, and talks from some of the leading snowdrop specialists. We also aim to inspire and encourage people to get involved in snowdrop themed arts and crafts through craft workshops and craft fairs, as well as poetry, painting, and photography competitions.
COMMUNITY OWNERSHIP - We want everyone to feel a sense of civic pride and ownership of the village. Which is why we'll be holding Community Planting Days for people to come together and help plant some bulbs. Individuals, families, businesses, and organisations can also sponsor snowdrops to be planted, and create a lasting legacy. We keep a record of everyone who has sponsored snowdrops and write their name in our Snowdrop Legacy Book so that future generations can look back and see who helped Comrie become Scotland's first Snowdrop Village.
ALL ROADS LEAD TO COMRIE
All our winter walking trails will lead back to the centre of the village, where residents and visitors can spend time looking around the shops, or refresh themselves in the cafe, restaurants, or hotel bar. With the trails finishing in the village centre, we can encourage people to support our local businesses which will give a little boost to our local economy during the quiet winter months.
CONSERVATION EFFORTS
Today, Scotland has become a hub for snowdrop enthusiasts with visitors flocking to see carpets of snowdrops under ancient trees, along riverbanks, and near historic buildings. Snowdrop tourism intertwines history, culture, and natural beauty. It invites us to appreciate the fleeting moments of the end of winter and the promise of spring.
Sadly, snowdrops face threats due to habitat loss and climate change. Conservation efforts aim to protect wild populations, and some private gardens actively propagate and reintroduce rare snowdrop species.
We will be helping to protect our naturally growing snowdrops here in Comrie, whilst planting thousands more, ensuring our rich biodiversity is around for generations to come.
THIS IS WHERE WE NEED YOU!
None of this will be possible without you. Every penny we receive on CrowdFunder will be used to buy more snowdrops to plant in Comrie. And we need hundreds of thousands of snowdrops! So this is your chance to sponsor your very own patch of snowdrops and leave a lasting legacy for generations to come. We’re even starting a Legacy Book to record the names of everyone who donates, so future generations can look back and see who who has left their ‘forever gift’ in our much loved, and beautiful village, and supported Scotland’s first designated Snowdrop Village!
PLEASE make your donation today! Thank you!
