COMPASSION FOR COMMUNITIES

RCN 1169275, Nottingham

We raise funds to support sustainable development projects in economically disadvantaged communities as a way to improve the conditions of life and achieving economic growth and regeneration. Current focus is building greenhouses at community gardens and irrigation schemes in Zimbabwe to enable all year round productivity, increase profitability, enhance economic stability, food security and minimise production risks associated with climate change.

Compassion for Communities was founded by Dr. Joseph Zulu, inspired by his strong Christian faith and the desire to make a positive impact in needy communities, particularly in rural Zimbabwe.

In 2017 Compassion for Communities, raised funds for fencing a community garden near Victoria Falls, in Zimbabwe. The fence protected the garden from wild animals and livestock.

iIn 2018, in partnership with a US registered charity (Intuba), Compassion for Communities supported a community garden in Mkhombo village, Lower Gweru, Zimbabwe- installing a borehole and a drip irrigation system.

In 2019, Compassion for Communities contributed towards building toilet facilities at the Mkhombo village community garden.

The activities of Compassion for Communities were negatively impacted by the Covid 19 pandemic.

Following a recent visit to Zimbabwe, it was noted that the garden has been a great success with the community now able to send their children to school and have healthy meals while selling their excess produce for economic empowerment.

Compassion for Communities is supporting the community on the initiative to build a greenhouse to ensure all year round high productivity, product consistency, uniformity and reduced impact of pests and diseases.

It is the organisation’s aspiration to roll out greenhouse construction at other community gardens around country.
