My name is Kareen Thomas, and I’ve always been a creative person. From a young age, I found joy in writing music, photography, and videography – using these outlets as a way to express myself and connect with others. Over the years, I’ve also had the privilege of working with children with special needs, and I’ve seen first-hand how incredibly creative and imaginative they are.
What I’ve noticed, though, is that there are fewer and fewer spaces where young people – especially those who may need extra support – can explore their talents freely and safely. There’s a gap in our communities where creativity, guidance, and opportunity should be.
That’s why I’ve brought together a team of passionate creatives, youth workers, and mentors to launch the Community Youth Media Hub – a space built to inspire, support, and elevate young people through media, music, and storytelling.
Our Vision
We want to create a space where creativity meets purpose – a space where a teenager can walk in with nothing but an idea and walk out having written a song, filmed a short story, or produced a podcast. Beyond just teaching technical skills, we aim to build confidence, community, and a platform for young voices.
This project isn’t just about equipment or space – it’s about impact. It’s about giving youth a reason to believe in their future.
How the Funds Will Be Used
Here’s how your generous contributions will directly support the project:
£25,000 – Venue rental & refurbishment: A safe, welcoming hub where creativity can flourish
£20,000 – Media and music equipment: Cameras, lighting, microphones, laptops, music production gear, and editing software
£15,000 – Staff and mentors: Creative professionals, youth workers, and volunteers to guide, teach, and support
£5,000 – Youth-led project fund: Covering materials, props, studio time, and showcases for final songs, short films, and podcasts
£5,000 – Operational costs & safeguarding: Insurance, security, admin, and making sure the space is inclusive and safe
Total: £70,000 Goal
With your help, we can transform this vision into reality and give the next generation the tools and confidence to tell their stories and shape their futures.
“I believe every young person deserves the chance to be heard, to create, and to feel proud of something they’ve made. This hub is about more than just media – it’s about giving youth a voice, a purpose, and a place to belong.”
