Community Engagement:
We recognize the importance of fostering a sense of community and connection among our customers and the broader community. Therefore, we plan to use the upstairs space as a community space where we can host events and activities that bring people together. This space will serve as a venue for Pokemon games tournaments, workshops, and other community events. By providing this space, we aim to create a hub for gamers and enthusiasts to connect, share, and learn from one another. This will not only enhance the customer experience but also contribute to the vibrancy and cohesiveness of our community.
target is to strenghten the floor as it is a flat at the moment and convert into community space.
Assess the Current Floor Structure: Before you start, you'll need to assess the current floor structure to determine what upgrades are needed. This may involve removing the flooring to expose the joists and other structural elements.
Calculate the Required Load Capacity: Determine the load capacity that the floor needs to support. This will depend on the intended use of the space. For example, a bedroom will have a different load requirement compared to a bathroom or kitchen. The International Residential Code (IRC) provides guidelines for minimum live loads for different types of rooms.
Select the Right Joists: Based on the load capacity requirements, select the appropriate size and type of floor joists. You may need to use larger or more robust joists than what currently exists.
Reinforce or Replace Joists: If the existing joists are not adequate for the intended load, you may need to reinforce them with additional lumber, or replace them entirely with new, stronger joists.
Add Blocking: Blocking is used between joists to provide additional support and to prevent them from twisting. Installing blocking can help to stiffen the floor.
Use Plywood or OSB Sheathing: The flooring material you choose can also affect the strength of the floor. Plywood or oriented strand board (OSB) sheathing can be used to provide additional support and stiffness to the floor.
Consider Additional Support: In some cases, you may need to add additional support beams or columns in the space below the converted area to help carry the load.
Consult a Structural Engineer: If you are unsure about the structural requirements or the best way to strengthen the floor, it's a good idea to consult a structural engineer. They can provide guidance and ensure that the changes you make will be safe and meet local building codes.
Remember, safety is paramount when making structural changes to your home. Always follow local building codes and regulations, and consider consulting with a professional if you are unsure about any aspect of the project.
